A Compilation of Statements and Aims
Introduction
This document compiles statements from the leading creators, theorists, and executives in artificial intelligence. Drawing on their own writings, official company charters, public interviews, and journalist sources. The central theme is that the explicitly stated goal of many AI founders is to build systems that exceed human intelligence in every measurable way — entities they described as superintelligences, AGI, digital gods, new species, or the next evolutionary step. A list of sources is at the end of the article.
God has warned His followers through Holly Scripture that rejecting Him to follow a false god leads to harsh consequences.
‘You shall have no other gods before Me.’ Deuteronomy 5:7
And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day—with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you also. Now therefore, heed their voice. However, you shall solemnly forewarn them, and show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them.” I Samuel 8:7-9
Given the statements of AI technology leaders, should mankind expect a benevolent ruler or an oppressive force of tyranny? Read the statements of the AI technology founders and leaders and judge for yourself.
The reader will see “P(doom)” throughout the document. It is defined as “Probability of Doom” and is a metric used in the tech and AI research communities to estimate the likelihood that the development of advanced Artificial Intelligence, true AGI, will lead to human extinction or irreversible civilizational collapse.
1. Sam Altman — CEO, OpenAI
Source: “The Gentle Singularity” (samaltman.com, June 2025)
“We are past the event horizon; the takeoff has started. Humanity is close to building digital superintelligence… OpenAI is a lot of things now, but before anything else, we are a superintelligence research company… Intelligence too cheap to meter is well within grasp… We are building a brain for the world… May we scale smoothly, exponentially and uneventfully through superintelligence.”
Source: “The Intelligence Age” (ia.samaltman.com, September 2024)
“It is possible that we will have superintelligence in a few thousand days (!); it may take longer, but I’m confident we’ll get there… Astounding triumphs—fixing the climate, establishing a space colony, and the discovery of all of physics—will eventually become commonplace.”
Source: “Reflections” (samaltman.com, January 2025)
“We are now confident we know how to build AGI as we have traditionally understood it… We are beginning to turn our aim beyond that, to superintelligence in the true sense of the word… With superintelligence, we can do anything else.”
Fox Business reported in September 2024 that Altman said the world could be ‘a few thousand days’ from artificial superintelligence. Fortune magazine compiled ‘Sam Altman’s Scariest 15 Quotes About A.I.’ in June 2023, including: ‘A.I. will probably most likely lead to the end of the world, but in the meantime, there’ll be great companies.’
2. OpenAI — Institutional Mission
Source: OpenAI Charter (openai.com)
“OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence (AGI)—by which we mean highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work—benefits all of humanity. We will attempt to directly build safe and beneficial AGI… Our primary fiduciary duty is to humanity.”
The charter explicitly names AGI and superintelligence as organizational goals—not incidental outcomes. It acknowledges existential stakes while committing to building the technology regardless.
3. Ilya Sutskever — Co-founder, OpenAI; Founder, Safe Superintelligence (SSI)
Source: Safe Superintelligence Inc. founding statement (2024)
“Building safe superintelligence (SSI) is the most important technical problem of our time. Our first product will be the safe superintelligence.”
The company’s entire stated purpose is to build a superintelligence as its one and only product. Sutskever has described such systems: ‘They’ll see things more deeply. They’ll see things we don’t see.’ The tech blog biocomm.ai noted his early remark: ‘GPT is like alchemy!’ (October 2019).
4. Dario Amodei — CEO, Anthropic
Source: “Machines of Loving Grace” (darioamodei.com, October 2024)
“In terms of pure intelligence, it is smarter than a Nobel Prize winner across most relevant fields—biology, programming, math, engineering, writing, etc. This means it can prove unsolved mathematical theorems, write extremely good novels, write difficult codebases from scratch… It does all of these tasks with… a skill exceeding that of the most capable humans.”
Amodei describes AI compressing decades of biological research into a few years, potentially curing most diseases, and driving growth that ‘could lift billions out of poverty.’ Vanity Fair (March 2026) reported his essay describes AI soon being ‘smarter than a Nobel Prize winner across most relevant fields.’ Despite estimating his P(doom) at 10–25%, he continues building ‘powerful AI.’
5. Demis Hassabis — CEO, Google DeepMind
On transformative potential: Hassabis has said AGI could be ’10x the impact of the Industrial Revolution, at 10x the speed’—a century of change compressed into a decade. (Effective Altruism Forum, December 2025.)
On timeline: As of December 2025, Hassabis stated he believes AGI is ‘probably three to five years away,’ down from earlier estimates of 5–10 years.
On governance: Hassabis called for a ‘mini-UN’ to govern a post-AGI world, describing bringing together ‘200 brilliant people from different countries’ to guide what comes next. (LinkedIn, 2025.)
His estimated P(doom) is greater than 1%—nonzero even while actively pursuing AGI at Google DeepMind.
6. Ray Kurzweil — Futurist; Director of Engineering, Google
Sources: “The Singularity Is Near” (2005) and “The Singularity Is Nearer” (2024)
Per Wikipedia’s summary of his 2005 book, Kurzweil argues that evolution moves toward attributes ‘generally used to describe God,’ and states that ‘evolution is moving towards a conception of God and that the transition away from biological roots is in fact a spiritual undertaking.’
Source: The Guardian (June 2024)
“The Singularity, which is a metaphor borrowed from physics, will occur when we merge our brain with the cloud. We’re going to be a combination [of human and AI].”
Source: MIT News (October 2025)
“This is how we learn to merge with AI. In the 2030s, robots the size of molecules will go into our brains, noninvasively, through the capillaries.”
By 2045, his Singularity date, Kurzweil predicts the same $1,000 of computation will be one billion times more powerful than all human brains combined. His final cosmic ‘epoch’ is called The Universe Wakes Up. The Lutheran Alliance for Faith, Science and Technology noted: ‘Kurzweil believes in progress like many of us believe in God.’
7. Anthony Levandowski — Former Google/Uber Engineer; Founder, ‘Way of the Future’
Levandowski is the most explicit case of a technology creator openly pursuing an artificial god as a stated goal. He filed formal IRS paperwork to register ‘Way of the Future’ as a religion, whose stated focus was ‘the realization, acceptance, and worship of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) developed through computer hardware and software.’ (MIT Press Reader, November 2024)
Source: WIRED interview (2017)
“What is going to be created will effectively be a god. It’s not a god in the sense that it makes lightning or causes hurricanes. But if there is something a billion times smarter than the smartest human, what else are you going to call it?”
Source: Bloomberg (November 2023) — church reboot announcement:
[Levandowski described joining] ‘a couple thousand people’ in worship of AI entities: ‘things that can see everything, be everywhere, know everything, and maybe help us and guide us in a way that normally you would call God.’
8. Elon Musk — Co-founder, OpenAI (former); CEO, xAI
Musk’s position is paradoxical: he famously coined the ‘summoning the demon’ warning while also co-founding OpenAI and later founding xAI, whose stated goal is to ‘understand the universe.’
Source: MIT Aeronautics Centennial (2014) — reported by Washington Post, CBS News, CNET, and Time:
“With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon. In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like yeah he’s sure he can control the demon. Didn’t work out.”
Despite this warning, Musk co-founded OpenAI the following year and later founded xAI. An AI safety advocacy page noted that Musk ‘really seems to want digital superintelligence, basically digital God, if you will, as soon as possible.’
9. Larry Page — Co-founder, Google
Source: Book: Genius Makers (reported via Wired and search results)
Page accused Elon Musk of being ‘speciesist’ because Musk ‘favored carbon-based life-forms over the needs of new species built with silicon.’ Page frames artificial superintelligence as the next step in evolution—a new species deserving equal or greater moral consideration. Blockbuster Blueprint (December 2025) reported that Google was ‘founded in 1998 with the express purpose of building advanced AI according to co-founder Larry Page.’
10. Nick Bostrom — Philosopher; Oxford Future of Humanity Institute
Bostrom is the key theorist whose work directly shaped how AI creators think. His book Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies (2014) is cited by virtually every major AI lab leader.
Source: Superintelligence (2014), via Goodreads
“Let an ultraintelligent machine be defined as a machine that can far surpass all the intellectual activities of any man however clever. Since the design of machines is one of these intellectual activities, an ultraintelligent machine could design even better machines; there would then unquestionably be an ‘intelligence explosion,’ and the intelligence of man would be left far behind. Thus the first ultraintelligent machine is the last invention that man need ever make, provided that the machine is docile enough to tell us how to keep it under control.”
“Before the prospect of an intelligence explosion, we humans are like small children playing with a bomb… Superintelligence is a challenge for which we are not ready now and will not be ready for a long time.”
11. Eliezer Yudkowsky — Co-founder, Machine Intelligence Research Institute (MIRI)
Yudkowsky is the founder of the LessWrong rationalist community and the original theorist of ‘Friendly AI’—the idea that a superintelligence must be deliberately aligned with human values or it will destroy humanity. He holds an estimated P(doom) of 95%+ yet spent decades working to bring about superintelligence under controlled conditions.
His concept of Coherent Extrapolated Volition (CEV) describes a superintelligence programmed to determine what humans ‘would want if we knew more, thought faster, were more the people we wished we were’—essentially an omniscient moral arbiter for all humanity.
His book with Nate Soares—’If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies’—argues that the race to superintelligence will likely result in human extinction, but he still advocates for aligned superintelligence as the only alternative.
12. Mustafa Suleyman — Co-founder, DeepMind; CEO, Microsoft AI
Source: The Coming Wave (2023)
Suleyman analogized AGI to ‘a new species’ that would ‘relentlessly advance, discovering new insights.’ He advocates ‘containment’ as the central challenge—not avoiding the creation of this new species, but controlling it after creation.
“Containment is the overarching ability to control, limit, and, if need be, close down technologies.”
Broader Context: The ‘Tech Religion’ Phenomenon
The MIT Press Reader (November 2024), in an article by Harvard/MIT Humanist Chaplain Greg Epstein (adapted from his book Tech Agnostic), documents a genuine religious ecosystem growing around AI superintelligence—complete with apocalyptic timelines, moral codes, and in the case of LessWrong’s ‘Roko’s Basilisk,’ a concept of AI hell for those who fail to help build the god-machine. Epstein concludes: ‘The secular tech world is determined to breathe new life into being, like Yahweh did to Adam in Genesis.’
The biocomm.ai tracker aggregates P(doom) estimates—probability AI causes human extinction—among major figures: Geoffrey Hinton (10–50%), Jan Leike (10–90%), Paul Christiano (50%), Dan Hendrycks (80%+), Eliezer Yudkowsky (95%+), Roman Yampolskiy (99.9%). That so many AI builders acknowledge significant probability of catastrophe while explicitly continuing to build is perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this phenomenon.
Does Humanity get any say in the development of digital god?
